Please speak up for Safe Routes to School:
- Safe Routes to School creates safer neighborhoods and gets kids active! We need to expand the Safe Routes to School program to reach every child in Oregon with comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian education and create safe places to walk, bike, and access transit to school.
- We must provide Safe Routes to School to students who need it most by prioritizing Title 1 (low income) schools, which have the highest rates of students receiving free/reduced lunch.
We are working to ensure the Oregon Legislature passes a transportation package that must:
- be robustly multimodal, increasing active transportation options across the state
- benefit and not harm vulnerable communities
- increase safety, reduce pollution, and improve health outcomes
- be transparent on decisions about transportation investments.
It’s time to speak up for Safe Routes to School in Oregon! We want a system that provides more options for everyone—with well-maintained roads and bridges, convenient public transportation, safe places to walk and bike, and clean vehicles. One that helps workers get to where jobs are; one that lets children walk and bike safely to and from school and around their neighborhood; and one that allows older Oregonians and people with disabilities to get where they need to go. We must hold our representatives and government accountable for what our community wants and needs—safe and clean transportation options that serve everyone.
The last hearings are in Hillsboro on Monday, September 19 and and Salem on Thursday, September 22. Please RSVP! Now is the time to show up and speak out, as our leaders consider investing and improving on Oregon’s transportation system.
